President Obama gave an important speech to the black community at the NAACP Centennial celebration. What makes it most relevant is that it comes from an African American leader that many respect as a leader, father, husband, and a responsible individual. Most folk like to say “Practice what you preach!” So far he has lived up to that mantra.
He explains to the African American community that its history of being deprived of equal representation in the pursuit of the American Dream is valid. This does not make it a valid reason to neglect responsibility for your actions. Spread your actions. Take responsibility and hold yourself as well as your peers accountable. Actually challenge yourself to do something differently in your life by taking positive action towards improving yourself and your surroundings.
A tee shirt needs to be made with those words emblazoned across the front. No Excuses. OrealE? Yes “Oh Real-ly!” No Excuses.
